House Street Remediation
Work continues at our House Street property as we continue implementing the EGLE-approved Work Plan to construct three engineered caps that will cover approximately 27 acres. RECON, our contractor, has continued to excavate waste material and is grading the site to design elevations in the areas that will be below the caps.
During June, RECON installed sixteen landfill gas vents and six piezometers on the southwest, northwest, and northeast mounds.
Last week, the liner installer (ALCO) mobilized to the property and began installing liner on the northwest mound. As the liner is placed, they weld the seams together using a heating tool. ALCO tests samples of the seams onsite, and both RECON and GZA send samples of the seams to independent laboratories to confirm that they meet strength requirements. Once the lab data is back and confirmed to be acceptable, the liner is covered with barrier soil, topsoil, and seed.
ALCO will return to the site after the July 4th holiday and continue installing liner in the northern mound areas, then will move to the southwest mound followed by the southeast mound. We expect they will complete the liner installation by the end of July with topsoil placement and seeding finished in August.
We continue to collect perimeter air monitoring, and there have been no exceedances of action levels. The air monitoring data is available in the “Documents” section of this blog or by clicking on this link. We continue to evaluate the data to be proactive with dust control as needed.

We still anticipate work this year will continue through November and that some remaining work, including grass planting outside of the mound areas, will occur in 2025.
Tannery Remediation
Over the past several weeks Wolverine’s lead contractor, Sevenson Environmental Services, has mobilized personnel, equipment and materials to our former Tannery site to construct the groundwater remediation system per the EGLE-approved Response Activity Plan.
On June 12, Sevenson’s trenching subcontractor, DeWind from Zeeland, Michigan mobilized and began installing groundwater interceptor trenches. Two trenches were completed on the north side of Rum Creek before moving to the south side of Rum Creek. The trench installation is ahead of schedule and will be completed this week.
After trenching is complete, Sevenson will mobilize their equipment to start installing the outfall to the Rogue River which will serve as the outlet termination point of the groundwater remediation system. This work may be begin as early as this week, and will proceed throughout July.
We still anticipate work this year will continue through November.
Parking and Trail Detour Update
On June 18, following the Start of Summer Celebration, trenching began in the parking lot at the southern end of the property and a portion of it is now fenced off on weekdays for safety. The parking lot will be fully open on weekends to accommodate increased demand and the Farmers’ Market, and access to the boat ramp will be maintained throughout the project except for during short time periods to allow for installation of a well.
As a reminder, the White Pine Trail has been temporarily re-routed during this duration of this project, and is anticipated to be reopened in October.
Air Monitoring Update
We continue to conduct air monitoring at the perimeter of the project site, and there have been no exceedances of action levels to date. The air monitoring data is available in the “Documents” section of this blog or by clicking on this link. We continue to evaluate the data to be proactive with dust control as needed.
