On May 20, 2024, Wolverine’s lead contractor, Sevenson Environmental Services started to mobilize personnel, equipment and materials to our former Tannery site to construct a groundwater remediation system in accordance with the EGLE-approved Response Activity Plan.
Since then, Sevenson has installed perimeter fencing, soil erosion and sedimentation control measures, and constructed equipment staging pads and construction entrances from Main Street onto the property.
In addition, on May 28, fencing and detour signs were installed across the portion of the White Pine Trail that runs through the property, and this detour will continue while construction is underway.
Next, Sevenson’s trenching subcontractor, DeWind from Zeeland, Michigan will be mobilizing its equipment to start installing the groundwater interceptor trenches. This work may begin as early as the week of June 10, 2024.
We continue to conduct air monitoring at the perimeter of the project Site, and there have been no exceedances of action levels to date. The air monitoring data is available in the “Documents” section of this blog or by clicking on this link, and it is updated every week. We continue to evaluate the data to be proactive with dust control as needed.
Photos of the site showing the grading and site preparation are below:

We still anticipate work this year will continue through November, with the White Pine Trail planned to re-open in October.
We will continue to use this blog to keep the community informed as our investigation and related work progresses in the weeks and months ahead. As always, residents with questions or feedback are encouraged to contact Wolverine Worldwide directly at HouseStreet@wwwinc.com or (616) 866-5627.
